to minivan or not to minvan…should there be a question?!
posted by modern mama on Tuesday Mar 27, 2007 under fashion, general, lifeto minivan or not to minvan…should there be a question?! not for the modern mama! i know the sales pitch - minivans are the quentissential vehicle of convenience and comfort for today’s family. and this may be true…however, for the modern mama, it isn’t about convenience, or comfort and usually boils down to form over function! (just picture me chasing down my 3 year old on the playground in manolo blahniks while carrying my 10 month old!) why am i so steadfast against the minivan?! i am not sure, but in my mind i truly equate owning a minvan with losing all things hip and cool about myself. i mean first the minivan, then what?! the ‘mom’ haircut, sensible shoes, and elastic waist pants - oh my! will the radio station suddenly play only ‘lite rock’ or worse - nursery rhymes?! do you wonder why they don’t offer minivans in the same color as sports cars or with racing stripes? for the record, my SUV has plenty of room for my kids, my shopping, and my identity! …not to mention, my kids like to rock out to fall out boy just like their mama!

I love that your SUV has room for your identity! I too have thus far resisted the urge to get a minivan, although sometimes I admit to minivan envy (usually while unlocking my back door, parked way too close to a Hummer, two kids in tow.) The worst are the ones with the family stickers on the back window. Is that an option you can get at the dealership, like self-opening doors and a DVD player? And why would you want to advertise how many family members and pets you have?
Carrie Bradshaw-type rhetorical question:
Are family member stickers on minivans the new status symbol?

This doesn’t make sense there is nothing wrong with a minivan. Since you seem to run around in high heels with high prices I guess compfort and value aren’t important to you.
